A coupler is a unit of a vehicle coupling device that serves to couple rolling stock units and transfer traction and impact loads.
It is available in several modifications depending on customer requirements.
Automatic coupling consists of a body and parts of the coupling mechanism: a lock, lock retainer, a guard, a lifter, lock lifter pin.

The coupler yoke is part of the coupler and is used to transmit the tensile force to the draft gear. It is a steel casting with an opening at the head end for the wedge and lugs with holes for the bolts to pass through to support the wedge. To ensure reliability and durability, the traction clamp is cast from 20 GL low-alloy steel.

Arm
Cast part of the coupler used to limit the vertical displacement of the coupler.
Lock
A cast part of a coupler designed for locking engaged couplers, which is carried out by its locking component.
Lock retainer
A cast part of the coupler, together with the guard, holds the lock in the lower position when the coupler is coupled, and together with the lock lifter – in the upper position when the coupler is uncoupled before the railcars are uncoupled.
Guard
The cast part of the coupler, together with the lock retainer, holds the lock in the lower position when the coupler is engaged and protects against unintentional release.
Lifter
Cast part of the coupler designed to rotate the retainer when the coupler is uncoupled and to limit the lock from leaving the body pocket into the mouth of the assembled coupler. After release, the lifter pin together with the lock retainer holds the lock in the released position until the cars are uncoupled.

Cast part of the coupler designed to rotate the lifter when the automatic coupler is uncoupled and to limit the lock from leaving the body pocket into the mouth of the assembled coupler.

Draft gear is designed to absorb part of the impact energy and to reduce the longitudinal tensile and compressive forces transmitted through the coupler. The principle of operation is based on the emergence of resistance forces in the device and the conversion of part of the impact energy into other types of energy.
