SC «KREMENCHUK STEEL WORKS» is certified according to the ISO 9001 quality management system, which confirms our commitment to quality and customer satisfaction. Thanks to the introduction of modern technologies and equipment, such as core equipment from Laempe and moulding lines from Künkel-Wagner, the works achieves high quality standards. In 2006, the company developed and implemented a quality management system in accordance with the requirements of the Association of American Railways (AAR) M-1003, which is confirmed by the relevant certificates. Non-destructive testing methods have been introduced to ensure comprehensive quality control of products.
Kremenchuk Steel Works occupies an area of 48.9848 hectares and consists of five main buildings with a total area of over 123,000 square metres. These buildings house various production shops, including a steel-smelting shop, a moulding and foundry shop, a cleaning shop, a metallurgical tooling shop, a transport and railway shop, a mechanical repair shop, and a power and energy shop with an oxygen compressor section.
The steel-smelting shop is the key production unit of the works, where raw materials for steel production are melted. Liquid steel of various grades is smelted in DSP-25 basic-lined arc furnaces with a main lining with a capacity of 25 tonnes. For steel production, technologies using precipitation and diffusion deoxidation and out-of-furnace treatment of liquid steel by ladle deoxidation with flux cored wire and argon purging are applied.
The moulding and foundry shop is an important production unit of the works, where steel and iron castings are moulded and cast. In this shop, the moulding mixture is prepared using mixers of the MP-120 and AMK-2000N models and a WM20-70 vortex mixer, and the core mixture is prepared using the 114 M model. The cores are manufactured using the Gold-box-amin process on Laempe core machines. The castings are moulded on three automatic lines by Kunkel-Wagner. The quick-change floating tooling of these lines allows for automatic model replacement. The use of one of the most advanced methods of compacting raw sand and clay moulds on the lines allows for castings with minimum dimensional tolerances and high quality cast surfaces that meet the requirements of regulatory documents.
The foundry’s cleaning shop is a key link in the production process, where primary and final cleaning, heat and mechanical treatment of castings, correction of casting defects, application of protective anti-corrosion coatings and acceptance of finished products are carried out. The required mechanical properties and microstructure of the metal are achieved by applying various types of heat treatment to castings in gas-fired through-furnaces. The machining section for the ‘Beam bolster’ and ‘Side frame’ castings for freight car bogies is equipped with specialised equipment.
The metallurgical tooling shop is a place where non-standard equipment is manufactured, as well as model and core tooling for the manufacture of cores and moulds. This workshop uses advanced technologies and high-quality materials to create efficient and reliable equipment. The metallurgical tooling shop plays an important role in ensuring the efficiency and quality of production processes at the works.
The power and oxygen compressor shops are key components of the works’ infrastructure. The power plant ensures the supply of energy and maintenance of power equipment necessary for the continuous operation of the works. The oxygen and compression shop produces and supplies compressed air and oxygen for various technological processes. The joint work of these two shops is critical to ensuring high efficiency and uninterrupted operation of the entire works.
